Special Congratulations Arran on passing your Shodan Grading

We would like to offer special congratulations to Arran Mehtam who passed his Shodan grading on Saturday. Arran has shown great spirit and trained very hard to achieve this goal. The fact that he has listened to feedback he has been given and worked to improve on areas that needed it was very evident in his performance on the grading. He graded in front of a panel consisting of Sensei Susan Hession 4^th dan, Sensei Richard Amuzu 4^th dan and Sensei Michael Paul 1^st dan who stepped in to help with the kumite. Well done Arran!

Well done to everyone who took their gradings on Wednesday or Saturday. You all did very well and Sensei Sue, Sensei Richard and all the instructors were very pleased with the effort, standard and commitment shown.

BWCSK at the GB Open Round 1

BWCSK sent a team to compete at the GB Open Competition Series for the first round on the 16^th February 2020 held at Wolverhapton Univerity’s Walsall Campus. The team did well winning a few trophies and adding some points to the leaderboard for the series. Congratulations to all those who competed and our thanks to Mauro and Sophie Menchuni for organising the event.

Club Notices

New class times on Wednesdays

Due to a increase in class size we are adjusting the start times for the Wednesday night class at Longbridge Methodist Church. This is so that we can ensure all students get suitably focused tuition for their grade.

The new times starting this week will be:

Beginners to Purple & White Belts: 5.30pm – 6.30pm
Brown and Black Belts: 6.30pm – 8pm / 8.30pm (8pm – 8.30pm subject to students demand on the day).

Christmas 2019 & New Year Closure and Re-opening dates.

There will be a small Christmas Party in the back room of the Weoley Castle dojo on Thursday 19/12/2019. Training will be as usual for those wishing to train in the front room.

The last training session for 2019 will be Saturday 21/12/2019 at the Longbridge dojo.

The club will reopen for training on Saturday 4th January 2020 at the Longbridge dojo.

December 2019 Kyu Gradings and End of Year Awards

Well done to everyone who graded tonight, it ended up being a long grading evening but you all approached it brilliantly giving your best efforts when called upon and showed great spirit. A special mention for Amy who did an unprecedented triple grading to yellow belt and Madgdi, Dylan and Seth who double graded. None of them knew they were potentially going to do multiple gradings today but as always we take note on class and see how people do when pushed beyond what is expected and if we are very impressed we may call people up to attempt an extra grade after the one they were expecting to do.

We also held are end of year awards after the gradings revealing who won this years Student of the Year. Special congratulations to Kyree Notice who was awarded this year’s club shield for most improved student. This was presented by last years winner Lincoln Boult who received a smaller personalised shield to permanently keep.

BWCSK WKU England Squad members return celebration

Today we welcomed back the BWCSK club members who were part of the England squad for the WKU World Championships in Austria.

This was a very successful competition with the squad members returning having won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in various categories.

Kyu Gradings September 2019

On Wednesday 18th September 2019 the BWCSK September gradings were held at the Longbridge dojo with Senseis Sue Hession 4^th dan, Richard Amuzu 4^thdan, Faye Tonkinson 2^nddan in attendance on the panel with a guest appearance by Sensei Austin Birks 5^th dan.

Everyone did very well and we were very pleased with the standard on display. A special mention for our two senior white belts who double graded to red belt.

Dan Grade Certificate Presentation for the June 2019 Gradings

On Saturday 10th August 2019, the last session before the summer recess we held the certificate presentation for those who passed their dan gradings in June. Angela Notice , who passed her Shodan examination, Hanna B. who passed her Sandan examination and Sensei Jeffett Jenkins of Walk Right Karate Kai who passed her Sandan received their NAKMAS certificates and cards. Angela Notice received a special presentation of one of the late Shihan Cummins’ trophies presented by Sensei Dorien Cummins having originally trained with Shihan Cummins for a number of years in the past before returning to training and finally achieving her black belt.
