Sensei Daniel Ray started training with Sensei Sue Hession at the Weoley Castle dojo having previously trained in karate during his childhood, he restarted in his 30’s and in 2018 achieved the rank of 1st Dan black belt. Shortly afterwards he went to train at the headquarters of the Japan Karate Association in Tokyo Japan whilst on holiday, a journey previously taken by the Birmingham & Halesowen Shotokan Karate Club founder and sensei to our Chief Instructor Sensei Hession, Shihan Cyril Cummins many years before. In 2021 Daniel passed his second dan grading under Sensei Hession. Daniel has assisted at the club helping to teach the current students from his experiences.
