Bethany’s Hangetsu Demo

Bethany Bird demonstrating Kata Hangetsu (半月 Japanese: “Half Moon”), an advanced kata practiced in Shotokan karate. The first part of the kata is performed slowly, with emphasis on breathing and kime (tensing at the correct moment during a technique), while the second part consists of more explosive movements. Hangetsu consists of 41 movements and the Okinawan version of this kata is called Seisan. A very important feature is the hangetsu-dachi stance (half-moon stance).

Photoshoot and Party

Last weekend was grading day and all of Sensei Hession’s students received a new belt. Many students even passed with a distinction. Blake double graded and received a red belt. We celebrated this with a photoshoot and a party  – after an amazing training session, of course! Congratulations to all students and a big thank you to Sensei Hession for your continuous support and for preparing us so well for the grading! We hope we did you proud.
