Sensei Michael Paul started training with Sensei Sue Hession 4th Dan at Weoley Castle Shotokan Karate Club, returning after having previously training with the late Shihan Cyril Cummins many decades earlier. Sensei Mike is living proof that it’s never too late to restart achieving the rank of 1st dan black belt in 2018 under Sensei Hession as well as proving himself a successful competitor in both kata and weapons categories in a number of competitions. and and becoming a medallist at the WKU World Championships 2019 in Austria. Sensei Mike took over the main management of the combined BHSKC & WCSKC website in 2017 updating the design and content and is an administrator of the new Birmingham & Weoley Castle Shotokan Karate site. In 2022 Sensei Mike passed his 2nd Dan grading under Sensei Hession and Sensei Amuzu. Mike passed her 3rd Dan grading in December 2025 under Sensei Susan Hession 5th Dan and Sensei Richard Amuzu 5th Dan. Mike started his karate teaching journey in 2018 he became a licensed Assistant Instructor at the club where he has continued his amazing contributions to this day.
